He may be known as The Baron Of Techno, a moniker given to him by John Peel, but Dave Clarke has an anarchist streak a mile wide and punk in his soul. From his break-through ‘Red Series’ in the mid 90s Dave Clarke has become one of the world’s most revered global headliners, whose frenetically charged DJ sets show a man with ‘techno’ coursing through his veins. Whether cutting and phasing classic electro to Chicago house, IDM, punk, techno and Industrial via his 3FM globally syndicated ‘White Noise’ radio show, globe-trotting DJ sets or his own substantial discography, Dave Clarke has consistently put musical integrity above all else. It’s this continued future thinking, electronic ethos that the techno don brings to fabric 60.

“It is a sonic journey man… don’t you hate that?! I wanted to have a gothic and bass heavy start that represented the sonic characteristics that Room 2 is capable of handling. I also wanted it to have some real electro, as fabric is one place that can truly appreciate that. It’s all pretty dark though and I think it represents the edgier side of club music that you only get to hear in clubs that care.”

It’s this inviting backdrop that enables such in demand headliners to push the boat out, experiment, try out new releases for the first time and generally take an open-minded sweatbox on a journey to the centre of bass. With fabric 60 showcasing 17 upfront, and sometimes unknown new releases, Dave Clarke has eschewed any desire to look back with guaranteed party tracks and focus solely on completely new material.

From the opening tonal throb of Raudive’s (aka Oliver Ho) ‘Shiver’ to the dark and gothic underbelly of Crotaphytus ‘Cnemidophorus Sexlineatus (The Mr. Pauli Monster Bass Guitar Remix)’ and the IDM crunch of Tommy Four Seven’s’ Armed 3’ Clarke makes his futurist intentions clear. With new electronic exponents like Scape One, Exzakt, Sync 24, Heliopause and Dynarec, Clarke brings the electro outsiders under the microscope whilst the dark acid house of Cristiano Balducci’s ‘Pride’ keeps the Chicago 303 flame burning brightly. We then get a taste of the new sound of Detroit as Marc Romboy vs. Paris The Black Fu get remixed by Kenny Larkin and Ray 7 & Malik Alston’s ‘I.D.F.D.F.I.’ bumps and grinds to a new Motor City beat. Of course when DC is behind the decks, you’re never far away from some blitzkrieg techno and Stephane Signore’s ‘Sacrifice (Radical G – 2k11 Edit)’ delivers them album’s central speaker shredding peak before Gesaffelstein’s ‘Aufstand’ takes us well and truly into the section marked electro.

Finally Dave Clarke takes us into the dark hinterland, a grey area where electro, electronica and techno meet as Clatterbox and w1b0 do battle for beats supremacy before the cinematic vision of Baz Reznik’s ‘The Attic’ closes the show with a macabre death dance of slowed down beats and atmospheric emotion.

Resonance is the keyword and also the ultimate aim we have chosen for this festival. In music resonators amplify an instrument’s sound waves by boosting some of its frequencies. During the festival this definition will be the metaphor for our work. Art and music will have to resonate in people’s hearts and minds, everyone joining this event will act as a single “resonator” with the task of spreading the festival’s spirit at its best. As for music, we will show you a full panorama of electronic music, ranging from warmer sounds to the more experimental ones characterizing Berlin’s techno music, ensuring 24 hours of pure fun. In this period of such great changes we too want to give our little contribution, an attempt to re-launch Italy in the European festivals circuits providing you with the chance to feel part of a cosmopolitan atmosphere, rich of cultural exchange opportunities.

Davide Carbone is the fresh hit in the scene coming straight out of Naples! D. started producing music in 2006 with his great friend Ascion where they began a musical project which continues to grow from their first releases. Always fascinated by electronic music, D. launched his career with minimal sonority that was expressed in his first releases on ‘Smallroom Music’, ‘8 Sided Dice’ and the ever popular label run by Dubfire ‘SCI-TEC’ amongst many others.

His musical growth reaches a high point in the summer of 2010 when he moved to Berlin. Davide managed to discover himself, establishing the dark and industrial music that has inspired him since his early electronic music days, which are expressed in his latest releases and productions.
D. Carbone is currently also redefining a new project by the name of “Repitch” with co-producer and friend Ascion. It enriched during his stay in Berlin, also with added of Shapednoise at a later time. Repitch can also be defined as an experimentation of sounds that are beyond the norm of usual techno. The label is based on noise, glitch, deep and industrial sounds, that will deliver a deeper experience to the listener.

Davide has been receiving support from artists such as Chris Liebing and Brian Sanhaji from the CLR label, as well as Adam Beyer and many others in the Techno community. The future is looking bright for D. Carbone, with up coming releases and remixes coming out soon on labels such as Natchstrom Schallplatten, AD ltd, Prosthetic Pressing, Gynoid Audio, Frequenza and others.

Armando: Downfall Remixes

In the list of classic Armando Gallop acid tracks, “Downfall” was the evil stepsister – not quite as sinister and chaotic as “151″ but with more of a demonic gleam than “Land of Confusion”. Originally released in 1988, “Downfall” was packaged together with “100% of Disin’ U” and “Confusion” on the aptly named Warehouse Records Presents ‘The Classics’ in 1994. It was left off the Armando: Trax Classix collection (and considering the poor overall sound quality of that collection – surprised? – that was probably for the best).

And that brings us up to today. Angel Alanis poured something you might not quite expect into this collection of stomping acid tracks: soul. Considering how often the Chicago House pioneers were ripped off – and the tastelessness of doing it to someone who is no longer around to stand up for himself – Angel went about it the right way, and unlike some of the ethically ambiguous efforts of the past, you can pick this one out of the racks with confidence that you’re not continuing the cycle of unjust enrichment off a good man’s name – all proceeds go to his family rather than the marketers.

Three new remixes are presented, each of which has a distinctive quality all its own. The Advent’s Pay Your Respects Remix does a neat trick by fading the original acid line in over a contagion of shiny hats and fat drums.

Jason Fernandes’ remix takes a new spin on it, blowing up the original and emphasizing the classic warehouse percussion (no pun intended). This would be a pretty nice opening to a set, with a blend coming in after the manic break at 5:30. Hugo Paixao’s remix closes it out with the most adventurous mix, taking really just the 303 and a hint of those clackin’ hats.

All profits will go through the Nihon Sekiyuj group who we enable to use the funds accordingly to help in any way our brothers and sisters in distress.

Partysan is a free regional German techno magazine. They have interviewed The Horrorist for the December 2010 issue.

1) 2010 is going to finish/end. Please give us a small summary of your year 2010:

This year was about working. Working on music. Working on making money with my day job in the energy business.

2) On the spur of the moment, 5 positive things and 5 negative things that happend to you during 2010?

Positive: 1. I created some of the best music I ever recorded in my life. 2. My pro-audio blog wireottheear.com became very popular. 3. I got an Apple iPad which I adore. 4. I got a new kitten named Tiffany. 5. I started my own successful Energy Services company with a Lawyer and an Architect.

Negative: 1. My father died. 2. I miss living in Berlin. 3. I didn’t release as much music as I wanted. 4. I fractured my foot. 5. I only went swimming 3 times.

3) On NYE you will celebrate with us at the Landespavillon. We finish together the old year and we start together into the new. You know the adage/the saying „On NYE you have to stay with these people, who you would like to stay with in the new year“? You think that s right? Or is it “only“ a booking which is casual on NYE?

I feel very strongly connected to Stuttgart and my friends there. Stuttgart has always been the most important and the most fun live show I do annually. Wonderfully people know the songs and I like the challenge of bringing them something new each time. I always feel very comfortably there before during and after the show.

4) In the meantime you know stuttgart very well. For more then 10 years you be here at least 1 times per year. Do you have spezial memories ? Or do you have one special party in your mind?

Hah are you kidding? I’ve had a mountain of crazy times in Stuttgart. Here’s one I think of often: I played one year for my Birthday. After the show I walked outside of Club Prag and some young German people were leaving and asked me to come with them. I got in their car leaving all my stuff at Prag. A few hours later I was in some other club so trashed I was asking people what they thought of my live show! Everyone in the new club was like, “Who the hell are you?”!

5) Even outside of the parties, what’s typical Stuttgart for you?

Well the city is very pretty. I love the view when you drive and see the houses with red roofs along the mountain side. I love most of Germany for being clean and quiet. It’s very refreshing coming from New York City.

6) Let’s talk about Oliver Chesler or better The Horrorist as producer and artist. Obviousley it was getting a bit calm/quiet around you. Less releases and less output? But why?

I won’t release anything until it’s ready. I do 3-4 songs and only keep one. The rest I just trash. Now at 40 years old I am really pushing myself to make my music match my adult thoughts. I require myself to sing about serious concepts and then match those with verse/chorus types of melodies. However, I also have to keep that music constrained so it fits with the club scene. It’s very difficult to perfect. It’s very difficult to sing about personal pain. I don’t want things to be fake. I have to also be inspired. Therefore it takes me time to get releases out but I feel my songs last longer in people’s minds than most other electronic music.

7) Can we expect new output in the near future? I guess you re working on a new album? Can you tell us a bit about it?

The new album is almost finished. It’s very dark and goes deeply into themes such as shame, frusttration and romance. I really only have 1-2 more songs to finish. I’ve been careful to archive all the parts of each song so there will be tons of remixes.

8) Or maybe about completely new ideas and projects which are in your brain?

I am looking to team up with people in a way that I never did so before. In fact, starting with some Stuttgart friends I will be letting go of some of the control over my music. Teams make business happen not individuals. I’m not looking to get rich with music (that’s what my Energy Business company is for) but the more music I sell the more people hear it… that’s the goal!

9) How are your future plans for TTC?

More releases! Build a better website with the entire 14 year history archive in it.

10) Concluding a question about your New Years resolutions for 2011. Will you be finally “behave properly“, or “will you be keeping out of mischief“ And will you be „reliable“ . or maybe you want to Stopp drinking and less raving and less parties? A new Hit? Or maybe should all stay like it is?

I promise to be part very perfect and part a complete mess.

Oliver Chesler’s movie career continues!

When Oliver Chesler was living in Berlin, Dutch film director Edwin Brienen contacted him requesting some music for an upcoming movie he was producing. After watching a few of his previous movies Oliver knew he wanted to be involved. He ended up doing a cameo in the film Revision – Apocalypse II singing his song Sex Machine.

The Monegros Festival takes place in a desert in Fraga, Spain. 40,000 party goers brave the heat and night cold to dance like lunatics. This year I was glad to take the stage and spread some of The New Direction. Richter was on stage with me. We had some nice time to hand with friends like Lady Lawless & Pet Duo and made new friends with the Kne Deep Berlin Crew and Frank Vitta.
